GOLDLAINE (GLXOG)
This was a clothing-brand I was inspired to create and curate when I took a
screen-printing class, during my last semester at School of the Visual Arts.
I fell in love with the process, and my first designs were all inspired by my culture and personal upbringing.
During Lunar New Year, a prominent color combination of its decorations are gold and red,
while you'll see lion fu-dog dancers in their amazing costumes, blessing the new year with luck and driving away "evil spirits."
I've grown up not only seeing gold as wealth and riches,
but also as good luck, new beginnings, long life.
These themes of lucky colors and lion fu-dogs not only feels auspicious
but also makes me think of family, of home.
As you scroll through, you'll see how I experimented with a lot of different color combinations but also screen-printing placement and material.
Season 2 of GLXOG was designed for the Fall/Winter season,
focusing on sweatshirts, hoodies, and bomber jackets.
This run was particularly interesting since screen-printing on bomber jackets is much different than your classic variety of shirts.
I experimented with different types of ink, and built a set up (with the help of my dad),
that was able to frame and hold the bomber jackets tightly, to get the most accurate print while screen-printing.
The size of frames I used were 18" by 24" screens,
I basically used the whole screen to print onto the bomber jackets' back.
So not only the type of clothing I printed on, but also the big size were all atypical of usual screen-printing methods, being able to have done it makes me feel very proud!
GLXOG Season 1 was for Spring/Summer,
and these were my first ever screen-printed shirts.

Following suit of my atypical, thinking-out-of-the-box habits, my first screen-printed shirts played around with the placement of the print.
As you can see in the above pictures, I printed overlapping from the shoulder, across the chest, and with some navigating around pre-sewn pockets.
Once again, this is not a usual placement of screen-printing methods,
So whatever adjustments I had to make to get the design on as accurate and ideal as possible, I tried, tested, and did it!
Sometimes, you never really know until you explore and try,
and the sweet satisfying feeling that follows after when it's a success,
just makes the whole learning-process that much better.
There's never a moment I haven't enjoyed learning anything new,
even when it's not always a success, the learning experience is just as valuable.
